To celebrate its 150-Year Anniversary Boucheron super-sizes its iconic Reflet Watch to create the Limited Edition Oversized Reflet XL Automatic

Founded in 1858, the House of Boucheron is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. To commemorate this historic moment and in recognition of savoir-faire of a House that for more than 140 years has created luxury timepieces for a discerning clientele, Boucheron has taken its emblematic Reflet watch and transformed it into the Reflet XL.

With the Reflet XL, Boucheron revisits a patent first deposed by the House in 1947. Originally consisting of a clever and insightful design of an invisible sliding clasp mechanism on the watchcase, today with the Reflet timepiece collection, it has evolved into the highly admired interchangeable strap system. The new Reflet XL, designed for men who appreciate and collect fine quality timepieces, updates a modern classic and supersizes it with a new 45mm case size, the biggest Boucheron has ever produced.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME

The Reflet watch line was born a year before the Boucheron company deposited its 1947 patent for its invention of an invisible clasp mechanism. Soon after this sliding clasp system was incorporated into the design of the Reflet line of timepieces. Since then Reflet watches, with the quick and easy interchangeable strap system, have always been considered an undeniable success in the luxury watch world.

Cherished by its female fans it is often forgotten that an every growing male clientele also covet the Reflet in versions with a larger case sizes. A perfect example of this phenomenon is the well known anecdote that a Reflet watch was the timepiece of choice for Edith Piaf, as a final gift to each of her lovers at the moment of their breakup.

If the celebrated invisible clasp system that made it possible to easily interchange a watch strap was a key component of the original success of the Reflet watch, its form and its innovative design have, over the years, also attracted a clientele looking for new ideas in the world of horology. Today, responding to the changing tastes of watch connoisseurs, while continuing to hold true to the timeless values of the House, Boucheron, with the birth of the Reflet XL, offers its discerning customers and lovers of large watches the new “Anniversary” GP 4000 automatic movement in its newest and biggest case size (45 x 31 x 9mm).

A MOVEMENT FOR A MAN OF DISCERNING TASTES

Boucheron has invited the world renowned Girard-Perregaux to create the automatic movement for its Reflet XL watch. Girard-Perregaux has, in keeping with the greatest horology traditions, built by hand a unique oscillating weight developed for the 150th anniversary and features Boucheron’s commemorative stamp design. Girard-Perregaux has also replaced the current horizontal “Geneva Waves” finishing with a cross machined finishing which gives extra luster to the movement.
